We may still be cautious about Covid and worried about winter, but there are signs of spring in the hedgerows and lots of good things to look forward to as we emerge from the darkness of 2021. In particular, we have a very special concert on March 12 to usher in our best ever annual programme of music events.
Our first concert for 2022, The Delights of the Theorbo, will be performed by the outstanding Dutch exponent of the instrument, Fred Jacobs, who is coming over from Amsterdam to play for us. His programme will include works by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687), court composer to Louis XIV, as well as other pieces by French theorbo composers such as Kapsberger, Charles Hurel and Estienne le Moine.
This is indeed a rare and wonderful event and I am sure you will enjoy it. The concert will be held in Flushing Sailing Club at 7.30 pm on Saturday March 12 with tickets at our new price of £13 (young people under 18 free - though zero price tickets are essential).
Tickets are now available from our website and by phone (01326 374237); they will be available from Flushing Village Shop and Mylor Stores from Tuesday, February 15.
Should you be unable to attend on March 12, the same concert will be given to members of the Roseland Music Society on Friday March 11 at 7.30 pm in the Gerrans Parish Memorial Hall. (Tickets available from CRB
O - tel. 01726 879 500).
Jacobs will hold a one-off musical workshop
The concert in Flushing will be preceded by a workshop at 2pm (again at Flushing Sailing Club) and will be available free to all ticketholders.
Fred Jacobs is keen that as many as possible bring along their own instruments, especially if they have guitars or lutes. As we need to know numbers for the workshop, it is necessary that all those hoping to attend should pre-register on our website by noon on Friday, March 11.
For safeguarding reasons, we must ask that young people under 18 attending this workshop are accompanied by a ticket-holding responsible adult.
