Review: Trio Cordiera

Fiery musicianship from the Trio Cordiera - Saturday 25 March

For those willing to brave the March wind and rain on Saturday 25th, the young Trio Cordiera provided a real musical treat. French pianist Antoine Préat, London based violinist Hatty Haynes and Oxford cellist Eliza Millett played with tremendous verve and concentration. They began with a brisk rendition of CPE Bach’s Trio in D major, changed centuries with Beethoven’s first work, the Piano Trio in E major, and concluded with Brahms’s wonderful Piano Trio number 2 in C major. The concert finished with a stylish and energetic encore, American contemporary composer Jennifer Higdon’s Fiery Red from her piano trio.

The audience in All Saints’ Church in Mylor Bridge gave a well-earned standing ovation for these hugely talented young musicians before returning to the stormy blast and home. Our thanks to David Eastburn and the Carrick Concerts team for organising such a splendid antidote to our recent spring weather.

The next concert welcomes some of Cornwall’s finest brass players to the Tremayne Hall in Mylor Bridge on Saturday 29 April at 7.30 with everything from Gabrieli to Gershwin, and all for just £13 a ticket!
