A night of vocal joy in Mylor Bridge!
What a delight to join Carrick Concerts as they hosted an evening of a cappella at Tremayne Hall, where we were captivated by a performance of rare quality, style and sheer musicality by the group ‘Selene', an ensemble of operatic level vocalists from Oxford University, performing a program of love songs through the ages - a perfect arrangement for Valentines week!
The full octet that normally makes up Selene was unfortunately reduced to a sextet after a serious car crash on Roseland the day before, with the 2 injured members gamely in attendance despite their serious injuries. However, whilst their voices were missed, it didn’t detract from an inspiring concert.
Their love of singing was clear as they performed songs that included their own arrangements, their energy shining through as their voices soared - so too did the spirits of the enthralled audience, many visibly moved.
The team at Carrick Concerts works hard to showcase top musical talent to the community, and it was a joy to take our four children along to experience this most moving of performances, where they could soak up the wondrous variety of sounds produced, their faces darting across the group as the sounds ran back and forth with both perfect timing and humour.
One of the aims of Carrick Concerts is to allow children to share these experiences, and to aid this they offer free tickets for under 18’s, providing a great opportunity to broaden their musical horizons, whilst sharing an activity as a family. For other members of the community it's the chance to share a love of music, experience new genres, come together in friendship and enjoy a glass or two at the bar!
I would encourage everyone to come along for an evening with this harmonious and welcoming group and share the delights of their forthcoming events. The organisers look to bring the highest level of musical talents to the region and we thoroughly recommend getting to the next available concert, on the 25th March at All Saints Church in Mylor Bridge, when they will present the instrumental group 'Trio Cordiera’ - award-winning musicians comprising of piano, violin and cello - you will not be disappointed!
Ticket are available at Flushing Village Shop, Mylor Stores, online from www.carrickconcerts.org and by telephone on 01326 374237.
